The Career of a Singer
Perth born Soprano Leilah Fox is has been a member of the West Australian Opera for over 14 years. An alumnus of Perth Modern School, her operatic roles include The Sorceress in *Dido and Aeneas*, The Happy Prince in *The Happy Prince*, and multiple characters in Graeme Koehne’s *Love Burns*.
In 2010, she performed for esteemed soprano Lisa Gasteen who invited her to study under her at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where she earned her Master in Music Studies. Leilah’s versatility as a performer covering many genres includes backing vocals for Hans Zimmer’s Arena Spectacular concert, and solo performances at St George’s Cathedral and Government House Ballroom. In 2019, she starred in *The Diments* Rock Opera, and recently performed as one of 230 singers alongside WA Symphony Orchestra with Asher Fisch for Mahler Symphony 8 at the Perth Concert Hall.
Her extensive education includes an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts, a Bachelor of Music, and postgraduate qualifications from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and Queensland Conservatorium of Music. A classically trained pianist, she was nominated for a national award of excellence for her performance of Beethoven’s *Sonata Pathetique*.
With Welsh heritage and British citizenship, Leilah has lived abroad and studied under operatic luminaries, including Welsh tenor Dennis O’Neill. She returned to Perth for the 2015 after being invited to sing in the Perth International Arts Festival with West Australian Opera for *Madame Butterfly*.
Her accolades include several scholarships, such as a full scholarship to the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School and the QLD Wagner Society Award for Most Promising Dramatic Voice. In addition to her performance career, Leilah is in high demand as a vocal coach, sharing her expertise and nurturing the next generation of singers.
