Neurofeedback Therapy

André Avila completed his Bachelor of Science, at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Neuroscience and Finance. In 2019, he studied at both the University of Oslo and BI Norwegian Business in Norway.

After his undergraduate studies, André undertook research training in the Honours program at Curtin University through the Perron Institute, where he achieved first-class honours. His research focused on cognition in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), examining qEEG networks and neurofeedback as a treatment for chronic mTBI symptoms. André has also worked as a research assistant in demand-driven industry collaborations assessing novel therapies to treat brain injury.

Currently, André is pursuing his PhD at the Perron Institute through Curtin University. His research project focuses on cognition in mTBI, with a specific emphasis on inflammation, brain metabolism, and the use of neurofeedback as a potential therapeutic for chronic symptoms. A driven science communicator, André was a state semi-finalist in the FameLab Science communication competition and has been recognised for his excellence in the Perron Institute 3-Minute Thesis competition.

André has received numerous prizes and awards for his research from scientific societies including the Symposium for West Australian Neuroscience and Australian Society for Medical Research.
