Vale - Bruce Illsley
Our Honorary Member, Past President Bruce Arthur Illsley PHF passed away peacefully in Busselton in his 104th year on Saturday the 13th of February.
Bruce will always be remembered for his clever mind, dapper presentation (for which he was often fined) and his contribution to our Club which will always be highly valued.
"A small snippet from my experiences with him; I was fortunate enough to be inducted by him, he was my mentor on the first committee with which I was involved. Much later, in his 95th year, having learned that he had conquered the mysteries of computing, I invited him to become my Secretary during my first Club Presidency. He claimed to be too old, but agreed with a little gentle persuasion. (Editor)"
He was a very diligent secretary!
From there his new word processing skills were well employed.
His wonderful gift to our club, Our History "The First Fifty Years, 1949-1999" was the first item placed onto our new web site earlier this month. The history Bruce provided was so detailed, it was edited for the site, but the original is safely archived for our future Rotarians.
The final line Bruce wrote....
"This History recalls the first fifty years of the Rotary Club of Subiaco with the hope that one day the second fifty years will be recorded."
Bruce was by all accounts a fine Chemist, a wonderful husband to Hazel and loved and respected by his extended family.
A remarkable, dignified, gentle man.
Rest In Peace Bruce.
