An Introduction to Mauritius

In preparation for the Rotary of Subiaco Changeover Dinner in two weeks, we are getting a primer on the beautiful island of Mauritius. Please join our fabulous member, Nathan Purgess, at the Subiaco Hotel.

He will share his biography of growing up in Mauritius. Discover highlights of life on this small island nation of about 1.2 million people. Find out the best destinations and activities when you travel to Mauritius. Learn about Mauritian cuisine and culture.

Jason Bloxsidge

Connected Technology and What is Smart?

Jason Bloxsidge is an expert in digital literacy, working for NBN as a community ambassador helping to raise digital inclusion amongst some of Australia’s most disadvantaged communities. Prior to that, Jason developed a registered training company which delivered job ready programs to clients across the northwest of WA, in particular travelling to many remote indigenous communities.

As a Master of Business Administration graduate at Edith Cowan University, Jason has a passion for lifelong learning which is demonstrated not only in his current position with NBN, but also his work in the entrepreneurship space developing his own ed-tech startup over the last two years.

In his own time, Jason spends quality time with his two young children and is actively involved in motorsport activities.

Year 10 high school students at Perth Modern School are invited to compete in the 4 Way Speaking Competition.

  • The Perth Modern competition is held Tue 26 July 2022
  • Semi-finals will be held after school during the week of 8-12 August 2022 *CASH PRIZES*
  • District Final will be held on Wednesday 31 August 2022 *CASH PRIZES*
  • State Final will be held on Thursday 8 September 2022 *CASH PRIZES*

Applications will be available in your Advo class or at the Interact Club meetings on Monday afternoons after school. Parents, teachers and students are also invited to contact Rotarian Shauna Kinney (contact details below).


Rotarians and community volunteers interested in particpating as adjudicators are invited to a information session on Saturday 2 July, 2.00-3.00 pm at the Rotary District 9455 District Office, 110 William St, Perth.

Hat Day - Lift the Lid on Mental Illness

You can help Australian Rotary Health's to Lift the Lid on Mental Illness by hosting a Hat Day event during Mental Health Month in October.
